The staff of The Islands’ Sounder and Journal of the San Juan Islands won eight state newspaper awards this month.
The winners of the 2021 Washington Better Newspaper competition were announced at the 134th annual meeting of the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association on October 8 online. Approximately 51 papers from across the state entered the contest. This year the judges for the Washington newspapers were from Kentucky.
Special section of the community guide: Sounder and Journal staff Colleen Smith, Mandi Johnson, Diane Craig, Tate Thomson and Laura Kussman took second place in all four broadcast divisions for The Book of the San Juans.
