The Turkish occupation authorities, with the support and funding of Palestinian fraternal associations, continue to change the demographics of the occupied areas, in particular the occupied canton of Afrin, through colonization and the elimination of nature.
According to the media office of human rights organization Afrin-Syria, Turkish occupation mercenaries felled more than 345,000 perennials and afforested olive trees after the occupation of Afrin township, burning over of 11 hectares of farmland, stripping forests of Maydanki trees overlooking Lake Shara.
But the General Department of the Environment of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria said in a statement on September 8 that nearly 2 million trees had been uprooted since 2018.”
In this regard, the spokesman of the Afrin Syria Human Rights Organization, Ibrahim Shiekho, spoke with The ANHA agency.
“Occupied Afrin witnessed daily violations against its landmarks, neither stones nor trees were safe from the atrocities of the Turkish occupation in an attempt to change its demography and eliminate its nature, as part of of the plan it has implemented since its occupation in March 2018.”
Regarding the recent crimes against nature of the Turkish occupation, Sheikho said that “recently, video clips have appeared on virtual media, proving the unfair logging of conifers by mercenaries of the Turkish occupation under the supervision of the Turkish intelligence services, under the eyes of the international community without any responsibility.
“The Turkish occupation authorities continue to establish colonies under the humanitarian names of the settlers in the occupied areas.”
More than 4,000 trees were cut down in Lake Maydanki
During his speech, Ibrahim Sheikho revealed their documentation to the human rights organization Afrin – Syria for the crimes of the Turkish occupation in Afrin “Through our monitoring and documentation, we are the organization of the human rights Afrin – Syria, when posted on virtual media, near Lake Maydanki, more than 4,000 coniferous forest trees were felled by the so-called “Corps of Revolutionaries”, including mercenaries of Sultan Murad who cut down so many trees in this area, by the so called (Abu Bilal) and his group, within hours they had cut down thousands of trees using electric saws and bulldozers, swept away land and uprooted trees significantly.”
The spokesperson for the Afrin-Syria Human Rights Organization Ibrahim Sheikho asserted that “the violations committed by the Turkish occupation authorities and the establishment of these fraternal associations are aimed at consolidating the policy of Turkification and to leave the region later; to annex it to Turkey as they did in the Sanjak of Alexandretta under humanitarian names”
In conclusion, Ibrahim Sheikho addressed the organizations and associations working to change the occupied population of Afrin stating that “this work is not right and the right action is to support and help the displaced people of Afrin in the camps of al-Shahba canton, which live in difficult conditions under the daily siege and bombardments of the Turkish occupation and mercenaries.
