A new restaurant offering traditional Cuban cuisine opened on Saturday in Istanbul, Turkey, offering visitors the opportunity to experience a small part of Cuban culture.
The opening of La Bodeguita del Medio offers a wide range of traditional Cuban dance and music performances as well as, of course, Cuban cuisine.
From the name of the restaurant to the decorations, from the food to the music, it all goes back to Cuban origins.
Istanbul offers cuisines from several countries, and now Cuba is one of those nations.
Most iconic Cuban restaurant
Havana Ambassador to Ankara Luis Alberto Amoros Nunez told Anadolu (AA) agency during the opening event that the “restaurant is a piece of Cuba in Istanbul”.
La Bodeguita Del Medio is the most iconic Cuban restaurant, said Nunez.
“This restaurant in Cuba invented the mojito (a traditional Cuban cocktail),†he added, referring to his sister branch in the Cuban capital, Havana.
“This restaurant represents the most authentic Cuban cuisine, traditions and music,†he said.
Nunez pointed out that until now, Cuba had never had such a place in Istanbul. “This is our most iconic restaurant,†he said.
“It is really good and it will be very good to strengthen bilateral relations between the Cuban and Turkish peoples,” said Nunez.
He said officials expect the restaurant to bridge the gap between the Turkish and Cuban people and promote Cuban culture and people to Turks.
“People will find the most authentic Cuban cuisine here and will be very interesting to come and learn about our traditions and our music.”
Nunez thanked the Turkish people for their love for Cuba and their “solidarity”.
“I really like Turkey and the Turkish people,” he added.
