Revolutionary singer, songwriter and musician Joy Oladokun will begin their very first headlining tour next spring with newly confirmed shows at Austin’s Antone’s, Dallas’ Club Dada, Los Angeles’ Troubadour, San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall, Seattle’s Neumos, Denver’s Marquis Theater, Minneapolis’ Fine Line , Chicago’s Lincoln Hall, New York’s Bowery Ballroom, Union Stage of Washington, DC, Terminal West of Atlanta and The Basement East of Nashville, among others. The key dates add to a pivotal year for Oladokun, who released their debut album on a major label, Defending My Own Happiness, last summer via Amigo Records / Verve Forecast / Republic Records. Additionally, Oladokun recently released a Deluxe Special Edition In Defense of My Own (Full) Happiness, which includes all 14 tracks from her major debut, ten more songs from her self-produced 2020 album, at the defense of my own happiness (the debut) and a new song, “judas”. To celebrate the new music, Oladokun will be performing on âCBS Saturday Morningâ this week as part of their âSaturday Sessionsâ series.
To stand up for my own happiness, Oladokun forges her own path, sharing the unique perspective she gained from living in today’s world as a black woman, queer, and child of the first generation of Nigerian immigrants. Born in Arizona and now living in Nashville, her musical exploration began at the age of ten when she was inspired to learn guitar after seeing a video of Tracy Chapman, the first time she saw a black woman. play the instrument.
