For the first time in history, an all-female boxing match will headline Madison Square Garden.
The epic match between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will take place this Saturday evening at the “World’s Most Famous Arena”, as it is nicknamed, in New York. A lot of hype, naturally, surrounds the big event.
“”Trust me when I say the amount of media that comes to Madison Square Garden, I’ve never seen anything like it,” the head of match boxing said about the fight. “This fight, when it comes on Saturday, is going to be absolutely massive. I think people have embraced this fight. People are delighted with this moment. People joined at that time.

Serrano enters the match as a slight favorite over Taylor, the undisputed champion. Holding 42 career wins, nine-time world champion Serrano has teamed up with notable boxers including Jacques-Paul in the old days. And now, this Saturday night, she has a chance to steal the championship from Taylor if she manages to win – but it won’t be easy.
“First and foremost, I hope this just puts [women’s boxers] on another pedestal of respect and makes them pay better,” Paul said after promoting Serrano. “It will just prove to the rest of the world that women need to be paid more in this sport. Because they are the most underpaid, more than anyone. That’s what I’m looking to do.

Meanwhile, Katie Taylor enters the match as a slight underdog, but that shouldn’t be a discouraging message. The Irish warrior is a two-weight world champion and the current undisputed lightweight champion, so she won’t be taken lightly and won’t go down without a fight (literally).
