Derby Preps, Big ‘Cap Headline 1/ST Racing’s Stacked Saturday of Stakes

With two stellar Kentucky Derby builds and the iconic Santa Anita Handicap headlining 15 stakes races on Saturday, Santa Anita Park and Gulfstream Park have joined forces through parent 1/ST Racing to creating a massive race day for punters.

In what 1/ST Racing officials dubbed “1/ST Saturday,” the two Stronach-owned tracks put together a combined card featuring nine stakes races (eight graded) from Gulfstream and six from Santa Anita. This map includes three Grade 1s: the Santa Anita Handicap, the Frank E. Kilroe Mile, and the Beholder Mile, all in Santa Anita. The day includes a total of $4.15 million in equity awards.

It also includes two of the nation’s best Grade 2 Derby preparations: the San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita and the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream. The two $400,000 races are essentially “win and you’re in” preps, offering 50-20-10-5 Derby points to its top four finishers.

The tracks offer two Coast-to-Coast Pick 5s, one for dirt and one for grass. Both Pick 5s come with 12% takeout and a $1 minimum.

1/ST Racing puts $5 million up for grabs; simply choose 15 bet winners

Along with this, 1/ST Racing is testing riders’ handicapping abilities by tempting them with a $5 million prize. All you have to do is choose the winners of the 15 stakes races on the two tracks. The person with the most winners among the 15 wins a VIP trip to the 2022 Preakness Stakes in Pimlico.

Then there is the 1/ST Racing Ultimate Betting Challenge. This real money tournament comes with a buy-in of $3,500 and a prize pool of $25,000. Players compete for a cash pool of $75,000 and entry into handicap tournaments for the remainder of 2022.
