The new model is based on a 3-5-5 structure in which each team will play three main opponents per year and play the other 10 teams in the league twice during the four-year cycle, once at home and once on. the road. The schedule allows each team to play all 13 home and away conference opponents at least once during the four-year cycle. The structure was adopted by league athletic directors and faculty athletic representatives earlier in the day.

  • Duke’s three main partners will be North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest.
  • UNC’s three main partners will be Duke, NC State and Virginia.
  • NC State’s top three partners will be Clemson, North Carolina and Clemson
  • The three main partners of Wake Forests will be Duke, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech

The new schedule will eliminate the Atlantic and Coastal divisions with all 14 schools competing in a division beginning in 2023. The top two teams by conference winning percentage will compete in the Subway ACC Football Championship Game on the first Saturday in December. at Bank of America. Charlotte Stadium, North Carolina. In May, the NCAA Division I board approved deregulation of the current rule that had limited an individual conference’s autonomy to determine who attends its championship football games.

“The future ACC football schedule model brings significant improvements to our schools and our conference, the most significant being that our student-athletes have the opportunity to play at all schools home and away on four years,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “We value thoughtful discussions among our members, including head football coaches and athletic directors. Ultimately, it was clear that this model is in the best interest of our student-athletes, programs, and fans, at this time.

A special one-hour edition of The Huddle will air on ACC Network on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to discuss the new programming format. The show will be hosted by Drew Carter and feature analysis by Eric Mac Lain, EJ Manuel and Mark Richt.
